Celebrating 25 Years of Service to CVCOA!
This month, we say farewell to Christine Melicharek, who’s served CVCOA as a Case Manager in Lamoille county for a quarter century! I recently had a chance to chat with Christine about what she valued most in her career with CVCOA.
Winter Warmers!
As we move into the colder part of the year, we have compiled some resources to help you stay warm and safe!
Taking Care of Yourself as a Caregiver
As a caregiver, it's easy to focus all your energy on the person you’re caring for and forget about your own needs. Taking care of yourself is crucial -- not only for your own health and well-being, but also for the quality of care you provide to ...
Locally Run Memory Cafés Alleviate Social Isolation
One major way that CVCOA’s Family Caregiver Support Program helps address social isolation among caregivers and those they care for is through Memory Cafés.
CVCOA Expands Meals on Wheels Services with Therapeutic Meal Training Initiative
CVCOA is enhancing support for its 13 partner meal sites through specialized training in the production of Therapeutic Meals for the Meals on Wheels program.
I feel stronger and healthier. My balance is better. And my mental health has held up this winter. Some weeks this class is my major social interaction and I would miss it terribly if it was not available!
Taking care of Colman is a 24/7 challenge for me (spouse). Meals on Wheels ensures he receives one good solid meal per day. It is helpful as he has a very good appetite. It is wonderful to receive one healthy meal per day that doesn't require preparation.
After my wife received a diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer’s it became clear that we needed to find outlets for socialization and mental stimulation. I was fortunate to be introduced to the Central Vermont Council on Aging where my wife has been able to participate in their quarterly in-person Memorable Times Cafe and weekly Jukebox zoom calls. My wife always comes back excited and rejuvenated from the discussions and activities these events provide and helps me in providing care for what would otherwise be a challenging situation. I am grateful for the support CVCOA provides.
A really lovely person delivered the kit to me – right to my front door even! It is incredible that you do this for those of us who can’t go out much. The Drawing kit has been so much fun and has kept my mind active. I was able to try mediums I otherwise would not have ever tried. The fact that I could do these activities at home was so helpful for me as I can’t come and go as easily as I once could.
Every time when I talk about a problem I’m having, it’s just like boom, my agent is right there. He’s got the knowledge of what can be done and he knows how to help me with just about anything I present. He takes action right away. I think it’s such a beneficial thing for people, this whole program. I seriously do.
