Shared Interests Lead to Connection
After CVCOA's garden program gained traction in the media last year, CVCOA Operations Director Sarah Mason reconnected with high school classmate and gardener and meteoroligist Alicia Wasula, who provided an expert resource for the program and financial support.
Alicia writes, "My friend Sarah shared a local NBC5 news story on her Facebook page about a program developed by her workplace, Central Vermont Council on Aging (CVCOA). I was immediately interested in the headline: 'New Central Vermont Program Builds Friendship While Maintaining Gardens at Home.' The program pairs seniors who need assistance with gardening tasks with volunteers who can do some of the physical work required to maintain and enjoy a garden. If you know me at all through this blog or my company, you know that I am so passionate about the development of one-on-one relationships via mentoring and community involvement. So, when I learned of this program which revolves around gardening AND developing relationships, I knew I needed to know more."
