CVCOA and Technology for Tomorrow Take the Mystery Out of Tech

Since 2020, Central Vermont Council on Aging (CVCOA) has provided technology training and connectivity to older adults. An important partner in this work is local non-profit Technology for Tomorrow. Working together, the two organizations have delivered free technology education to older adults throughout Central Vermont.

Technology for Tomorrow and CVCOA share common goals of helping older adults to remain independent and stay connected to friends, family and community. CVCOA has heard from older adults how frustrating it is to be heavily reliant on others in the digital world. Technology education can lead to a sense of dignity for participants who become empowered to navigate their devices and the internet independently, accomplishing tasks that they otherwise would have to rely on others for. Proficiency with technology can bring increased opportunities for connection, continued learning and personal growth and improve safety online.

Classes have been well received with participants coming away with increased confidence in their ability to navigate basic technology. Said one participant "I came to this class with little knowledge of using the internet. I was not comfortable, thinking I would press something and not know how to get out of it. This class has given me the confidence to try."

CVCOA is excited to announce a new series of online tech classes with Technology for Tomorrow. This Everyday Tech series will run Wednesdays on Zoom, 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., August 12 through September 9. Classes will focus on basic fundamental skills that can improve someone’s experience when using technology with each class seeking to "demystify" a core pillar of technology, including phones, computers, and more.

CVCOA Tech Program Volunteer Coordinator, Keith Puffer, says "We have worked with Technology for Tomorrow in the past to bring online classes to our older adult neighbors, and I am so excited to again be working with this Vermont organization to support our communities.  This partnership helps us enact our mission to support older adults to age with dignity and choice, staying connected to the communities they love.”
