Housing Resources for Older Adults

Are you looking for housing for yourself, an aging parent, relative, or friend? Vermont has various housing options available to help you find the perfect fit.

Vermont offers a range of housing options for older adults depending upon your individual needs. Some of these include:

  • Shared Housing Options connect non-related people to live together. Examples of this include a home share in an individual’s home or a non-profit owned housing arrangement.
  • Senior Public Housing provides subsidized independent apartments through a local federally funded housing authority.
  • Assisted Living and Residential Care Facilities provide assistance with meals and other daily living tasks for seniors who can no longer live independently.
  • Retirement or Senior Living Communities offer independent living in the company of others, frequently with amenities such as shared dining, transportation and activities.

There many other services available to help Older Adults remain in thier homes including Adult Day Services, Home Care, Respite Care and, of course, Long Term Care when it is needed. See the resources below or click here for Additional Resources.

Click here to view a guide that is designed to help you navigate some of the key programs that are funded by HUD that involve rental assistance, homeownership, homelessness, housing counseling, and fair housing. This guide also includes information on some other federal, state, and local organizations that have related housing and support resources that you may want to inquire about.
